How Long Does a Windshield Replacement Take?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive about our services: How long does a windshield replacement take?

Our windshield replacements generally take about 60 minutes or less to accomplish, whether we are at your location or ours. Our replacement time is among the fastest in the industry. To be absolutely sure that your vehicle is ready to drive, we set an hour or less safe drive away time to wait after the replacement. This means that you will be able to drive away safely within just one hour of completing the replacement; this is the lowest safe drive away time in the industry. This wait time allows our Sika brand urethane adhesive to properly cool and set, ensuring a structurally sound windshield replacement. We value safety in all of our windshield replacements, because we know how important your windshield is to the safety of drivers and passengers.

Between removing the broken glass, clearing any leftover glass debris, replacing the windshield, and the hour safe drive away time, the whole process takes about two hours. This an industry-low wait time. It allows us to make a clean and complete replacement while ensuring you drive away safe. For more information on our windshield replacement services, call us at 800-900-1505 or contact us online.

What is an Active Windows Display?

HUDs, or heads up displays, were designed by the military for accessing quick glance information while driving. However, HUDs were useful for more than just military use. They are also very helpful for everyday drivers, and will be even more powerful when HUDs are conveniently and safely displayed on car windshields.

Windshield HUDs garnered some buzz during the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. With all of your key driving information displayed on the front windshield, drivers will not have to divert their eyes away from the road. Drivers would be able to access a wide array of information and applications. Active window display HUDs will be able host Google and Apple designed apps.

One convenient feature to access on the windshield HUD will be GPS navigation systems. Drivers will not have to look at box GPS systems or dashboard GPS systems; instead the navigation commands will be featured right on their windshield.

Active window displays will allow drivers to interact with their apps completely hands-free as well. While this technology is already available for many drivers, it will only strengthen the safety advantages of windshield display HUDs. Complete synergy between the two technologies will allow for the safest driving experience.

Active windows display could work for any car. It would just need to plugged into the onboard computer. Active window display will work by inversely displaying the HUD from just under the windshield.

Specialty Vehicles Serviced by Windshield Centers

Your windshield is one of the most important safety features in your vehicle. For the average automobile, an unharmed windshield is important for maintaining the structural integrity of the vehicle. Similarly, all pieces of auto glass in your car are important for a sound structural design, and are key security features.

However, windshields and auto glass are important for more than just cars. At Windshield Centers, we service several kinds of specialty vehicles, because all of these vehicles are vulnerable to auto glass damage.

We service tractor trailers with auto glass repair and replacement. While tractor trailers use strong, high-quality windshields, they are also out on the road more than almost any other kind of vehicle. This makes tractor trailers vulnerable to random, and almost inevitable, windshield damage. Our certified technicians have the experience and equipment to service semi-truck auto glass.

Windshield Centers also services glass for mobile homes. While some mobile homes don’t spend too much time on the road, those that travel with their mobile homes tend to take long trips, which makes them vulnerable to windshield and glass damage. Also, mobile homes not on the move are still vulnerable to vandalism, one of the leading causes of all auto glass damage.

We also do repairs and replacements for buses. Buses have that distinction of having a lot of windows. Contact Windshield Centers for bus glass repair or replacement.

Contact Windshield Centers today at (800) 900-1505 to find out if we can service your specialty vehicle.

Do you really need to put your windshield wipers up in the snow?

We see it every snow storm. Every time you make a last minute trip to the grocery store when a big snow storm is coming, the lot is lined with cars with their windshield wipers sticking straight up into the sky. You think to yourself, should I be doing that?

Not necessarily, but it’s not a bad idea. AAA has commented that it sees no measurable benefit from raising your wipers during snowfall. Most people that lift their windshield wipers simply feel that it makes snow removal easier, while also helping to prevent their wipers from sticking to their windshield.

Others think that you could throw your defroster on while you clear off your windows, but both methods are effective. Putting your windshield wipers up is also helpful if you left your wipers on before you last stopped your car. Putting them up can help remind you to shut them off before you start up your car. Leaving the wipers buried in snow and turning them on suddenly can be seriously damaging to the mechanism.

However, you may not want to leave them up if you are going to be away from your car for over a day, because they could get damaged blowing around in heavy winds. But overall, there aren’t any serious cons. You can feel free to join the rest of the parking lot and point your windshields up into the air.
